Most Wicked Day Year Three
The Story
35 competitors
Year three on Lake Tobesofkee. The biggest field yet (35 competitors), six events, and a Most Wicked Combine debut. Eight hours of nonstop rotation. Kyle reclaimed the throne, two points clear of Cory.
Hole Sports opened the day. By the time the final beanbag hit canvas, Cory had posted a perfect 4–0 record and pocketed the medal bonus for 10 points. Justin and Alan kept him honest, but the morning belonged to Cory.
Four courts popped up beside the water and the morning breeze filled with paddle pops. Kyle and Liza both went 6–0 through Pickleball pool play. Spectators ringed a single court for the medal tiebreak, race-to-five singles. Kyle sprinted out 4–1. Liza reeled off six of the next seven rallies, completed the comeback, and snatched the championship 6–4 for 14 total. The crowd exploded. Cory's overall cushion was shrinking fast, and a fired-up Kyle stalked toward Dodgeball looking for revenge.
With twenty-two players the courts were packed. Three rapid rounds rode on constant teammate reshuffles, and when the chalk dust settled a three-way deadlock sat at the top: Christian, Emma, and Kyle, all 3–0. Emma bowed out. Christian and Kyle drafted four teammates apiece for a single deciding game. Christian's squad dominated, clinching the win and the medal bonus.
Heat shimmered off the sand by early afternoon, but four three-inning Wiffleball games flew by in a blur of blitzballs and fence-clearing moonshots. Cory homered in Game 1, padding his margin. The Game 4 showdown ended regulation tied at 5 points each, both men with second homers. A one-swing playoff followed. Cory's drives died at the fence. Bret's very first cut cleared the beach and splashed into the lake. He collected MVP honors and the medal bonus for 7 points.
Entering the six-station Most Wicked Combine, Cory still clung to a 24–23 edge over Kyle. Five events later, inches not points separated them, tied 29–29. Only the QB Accuracy throw remained. Rain spit across the field. Kyle chose the safe 15-yard toss and missed. Cory gambled from 25 and also missed. Raw Combine points leaned Kyle's way 6–5, and the automatic +2 medal bonus locked it. Kyle finished 31, two clear of Cory at 29. The throne was his again.
Kyle hoisted the golden trophy, then filled it with a Surfside and hammered it back while the crew roared. Cory accepted the Most Wicked GOAT award as the crowd chanted his name. Bret's homer ball floated somewhere beyond the buoys. Liza waved her pickleball medal. Christian wore his dodgeball medal proudly. Speaker volume crept up. Lake beers cracked. Every point, every partner, one gutsy 30-yard kick. Most Wicked Day lived up to its name again.
